BBtv Vlog: David Meets Artist Liz McGrath.

Boing Boing editor David Pescovitz visits the dark, surreal, creepy, and, er, frightfully cute world of Los Angeles artist Liz McGrath. Mutant beasts run amok in her decadent circus sideshow of sculpture where flesh and blood is replaced with resin, paint, and faux fur. No dead animals were used in the creation of this artwork.

Great stuff! And there's a bonus appearance by Mark lurking in a doorway at 00:45.

OK, BBTV has now had all of the regulars except Cory in the anchor seat. Why ya camera shy D-man?

I grew up in Singapore. The mini theme park the artist refers to is called Haw Par Villa, which has concrete dioramas of Chinese folklore tales, including the Ten Courts of Hell. It's a fascinating place to go as a kid. I can see how it could have been an early inspiration for Liz McGrath's work!

I'm so smitten on multiple levels. Too bad (for me) she's married. Such is life, or, at least, mine.

Glad you folks enjoyed the piece. I had a great time with Liz. She's really very sweet and so talented. I like that she has a great sense of humor about her work. @FuzzyWong, thanks for that info about Haw Par Villa. Looks to be quite an interesting place.

License Farm: Join the club. To appease my longing, I think I'm going to steal her hairstyle.

Artists == swoon. Cute artists == swooner.

I LOVE Liz's work! In fact, I own one of her sideshow pink bunny sculptures! So I was thrilled to see her finally on BBTV!

I took photos of one of her shows in San Fran if any of you would like to see more of her creepy critters: http://flickr.com/photos/bonniegrrl/sets/1139801/
