Roachbot / Walter Robot
Roaches are gross. Robots are good. But -- cockroch-controlled robots? Roboticist Garnet Hertz made one, and we visit him and his roachbot today. Then, a short film from Walter Robot (aka: Bill Barminski and Christopher Louie) about a broken hearted 'bot who ends up having a different kind of close encounter.

The opposite is also happening - where robots control and subdue cockroaches by pretending to be one of them and eventually becoming their leader.

I think a whole new genre of Japanese mega-monster movies could be made on this theme. Robo-moth vs. Meca-roach, perhaps? Or maybe something along the lines of a machine death match? Attach flailing scimitars to the moth and a saws-all to the roach and see who wins.
The glimpse of the bra hanging in the closet is the best bit of the lovelorn robot video. And why don't they let that roach drive around, see if he can navigate a maze or escape the room, or something less boring than staring at blinking LEDs?
"something less boring than staring at blinking LEDs?"
the blinking LEDs act as a kind of radar screen, as i understand it. they essentially display information about the proximity of objects in a manner that the roach is compelled to act on. essentially.
so that whole contraption, LEDs, wheels, and all, could be put in some kind of maze, i would imagine.
Amiga graphics swear revenge on emobots... film at 11.
sad ending! i was hoping gratuitous alien/robot sex.
We're all hoping for gratuitous alien/robot sex.
